Family Histories by Emily Croom

Coleman Kin
Coleman Kin focuses on the life history and descendants of Daniel and Patience Coleman, the elders, of colonial Cumberland County, Virginia, and includes chapters on their son Thomas Coleman Sr., their grandson William Coleman Sr., their great-grandson Elliott G. Coleman, their great-great-grandson Ferdinand Glenn Coleman, and Ferdinand’s children. Each chapter is documented and explores the life and records of the subject family; the children of the focus couple are listed with as many of their descendants as could be identified by the time of publication. Information on related families includes the surnames Allen, Blalock, Daniel, McFadden, Patton, and Watkins.

Isaac McFadden Descendants
Isaac McFadden Descendants began as a bicentennial project but keeps growing as new material and “new” descendants are located. The text includes a documented biography of Isaac McFadden Sr. of Chester County, South Carolina, who died in 1820. Succeeding sections of the book highlight each of Isaac’s 16 children with their census records, vital statistics, and identified descendants. Updates include additional pages on more-recently-identified descendants and photocopies of Isaac McFadden’s family Bible register, which shows his children, the family of his daughter Catherine Ewing (McFadden) Patton, and some of her grandchildren.

Kentucky Brelsfords and Kin
This book documents the life history of several generations of Brelsfords, beginning with Nathan Brelsford, who settled with his family in Christian County, Kentucky, in the early nineteenth century. Descendants who settled in Gonzales County, Texas, motivated the research and the book. Other biographies or genealogical sketches include Rev. Sam Black of Virginia; Sam Black of Kentucky; James Shaw of early Nashville and Kentucky; several generations of the Turley family of Virginia and Kentucky; Henry Brantley Brown of North Carolina and Arkansas; several generations of the Holmes family of Gonzales County, Texas; Almanzon Huston of San Augustine County, Texas; and Cummings and White families of Cherokee County, Texas.

Kentucky Brelsfords and Kin. 1984. 314 pages. Indexed, maps, drawings. Photocopies of the book available from author.

A Chronicle of Tennessee Crooms
This history begins with Daniel Croom, who died in Goochland County, Virginia, about early 1735. Other chapters discuss the lives of his son Jesse Croom; his grandson Charles Croom Sr.; his great-grandsons Charles Croom Jr. of Madison County, Tennessee, and Isaac Croom Sr., who eventually settled in Caddo Parish, Louisiana; and his great-great-grandson Isaac Croom Jr. of Madison County, Tennessee. Other descendants are listed in family groups, with updates added as new information becomes available. A case study involving the two Isaac Crooms forms a chapter in The Sleuth Book for Genealogists, by Emily Anne Croom (Cincinnati: Betterway Books, 2000).

A Chronicle of Tennessee Crooms. 1970. 85+ pages. Indexed. Photocopies of the master copy available from author.
