For God and Texas: Autobiography of Francis Asbury Mood, 1830–1884
Mary Katherine Earney, ed.
This annotated autobiography of a nineteenth-century preacher, circuit
rider, and educator contains family history of the Mood family of Charleston,
South Carolina, as well as history of the Methodist church in South Carolina
before the Civil War and Texas after the war. Because Mood was also the
founding president of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, he
devoted considerable space in his autobiography to the early years of
the college. Illustrations include copies of documents and pictures of
family and colleagues as well as the university.
